Builds AI features directly into a company's core product — think in-product copilots, recommendation systems, or automation features. Less client-embedded than an FDE; works within a product engineering org, partnering with product managers and designers.
Key Skills:
- Full-stack or backend engineering with an AI integration layer
- API design for AI features (streaming responses, tool-calling, function calling)
- LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, custom orchestration)
- A/B testing and product analytics
- Understanding of latency/cost tradeoffs for production AI features
Experience Required:
- 2–6 years software engineering, ideally with 1+ years applied AI/ML feature work
- Experience shipping consumer or B2B SaaS features end-to-end
